Coliform microorganisms which ferment lactose produce shiny red to black colonies. The typical reactions of this medium are not brought about by the acid production but by the acetaldehyde intermediate product, fixed by Sodium Sulphite. Incubate at a temperature of 35 ± 2°C during 24 hours.
