Selective medium for the detection of Coliforms in water, dairy products and other foods. Gram positive micro-organisms are clearly inhibited by the bile salts and the crystal violet it contains. The lactose-fermenting micro-organisms acidify the medium and the colonies are pink, their size depending upon the number of bacteria existing on the medium surface.
